Job Description

Background

The organization seeks to  recruit a proactive and creative Communications and IT Assistant to support the implementation of its communication and visibility strategies. The successful candidate will assist in producing high-quality communication materials, managing digital platforms, promoting organizational activities, and strengthening engagement with members, partners, donors, and the public.


Purpose of the Position

The Communications and Social Media Officer will provide day-to-day support for the organization’s communications function by creating and disseminating content, maintaining digital communication channels, supporting events, and ensuring consistent branding across all communication platforms.

Key Responsibilities

A. Content Development and Communications

  • Draft, edit, and proofread communication materials, including news articles, newsletters, press releases, announcements, success stories, and reports.
  • Develop engaging content for the organization’s website, social media platforms, and email campaigns.
  • Assist in implementing the organization’s communications and visibility strategy.
  • Ensure all communication materials adhere to the organization’s branding and style guidelines.
  • Support the documentation and dissemination of organizational achievements, events, and project outcomes.

B. Digital and Social Media Management

  • Manage and regularly update the organization’s social media platforms.
  • Schedule and publish content across digital communication channels.
  • Monitor audience engagement and respond to inquiries where appropriate.
  • Track social media performance and prepare monthly analytics reports.
  • Identify opportunities to increase online visibility and audience engagement.

C. Multimedia and Creative Support

Recruitment & Staffing

  • Design communication materials such as flyers, posters, banners, brochures, presentations, and infographics.
  • Support photography and videography during organizational activities and events.
  • Edit photos and videos for use on digital platforms and promotional campaigns.
  • Assist in producing multimedia content for awareness and advocacy initiatives.

D. Event Communications

  • Support communication activities before, during, and after meetings, workshops, conferences, and webinars.
  • Prepare promotional materials and event communication content.
  • Document events through photography, videography, and written summaries.
  • Assist in preparing post-event communication reports and highlights.

E. Administrative Support

  • Maintain an organized archive of communication materials, publications, photographs, videos, and digital assets.
  • Support the preparation of communication reports and updates.
  • Liaise with vendors, designers, printers, and media partners as required.
  • Perform other communication-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Expected Deliverables

The Communications Assistant and Social Media Officer will be expected to:

  • Produce timely and high-quality communication materials.
  • Maintain active and engaging social media platforms.
  • Ensure regular updates of the organization’s website’s content.
  • Produce professional graphic and multimedia content.
  • Support successful communication and visibility for organizational events.
  • Submit periodic communications performance reports.
  • Maintain a well-organized repository of communication assets.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Mass Communication, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, media, or digital marketing.
  • Experience managing organizational social media platforms.
  • Experience developing communication content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in graphic design and multimedia production.
  • Experience using website content  management systems (e.g., WordPress) is an advantage. 

Required Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
  • WordPress or other content management systems
  • Social media management platforms
  • Basic photography and videography
  • Email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp) is an advantage
