Database Administrator

Role Focus 

Delivers database management support to the Exploration teams, with a primary focus on handling critical Exploration datasets using enterprise-grade tools like Microsoft SQL Server. 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction. 

• Implement, administer and operate exploration database systems including related software and hardware. 

• Work with end users and senior leadership to identify current and future exploration database systems needs in various exploration sites; provides recommendations to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness of GED services. 

• Provide specialized technical and analytical geospatial assistance that will support the development and maintenance of datasets. 

• Assist in performing internal audits of the data to be used in the Resource/Reserve model updates. 

• Monitor the exploration database to ensure it is up to date including Drill hole collar information, Sampling, Assay and other interval data. 

• Setup and maintain Akyem Exploration data repository. 

• Maintain the integrity of critical Exploration datasets including drill hole and sample databases. 

• Provide support and training to geoscience staff in exploration database system practice. 

• Adhere to and participate in the development of Exploration Database standards. 

• Ensure consistency of data and the data structure on the Exploration Database. 

• Oversee that all work conducted adheres to Health and Safety standard operating procedures. 

• Conduct daily meetings to discuss Health and Safety threats. 

• Work closely with all stakeholders when assessing and rolling out new system upgrades. 

• Manage client relations to ensure that Exploration information is effectively maintained and delivered.

 Training and Experience 

• A Bachelor of Science Information Systems/Computer science or related geosciences. 

• Experience with Acquire, SQL Server, or other Enterprise scale database systems. 

• Minimum of five years of relevant experience working with Database Systems, preferably in the Mining/Exploration industry. 

• Demonstrated strong communication and knowledge sharing skills. 

• Multiple skills set in exploratory data analysis, mining software and computer programming is an added advantage. 

• Supervisory experience and ability to work successfully in a team environment.
