Job Summary:

To assist the Head of the career Counselling Services Center to  deliver comprehensive guidance and counselling services aimed at promoting students’ academic achievement, emotional wellbeing, and personal development. The Guidance and Counselling Officer provides individual and group support, implements preventive interventions, and collaborates with academic and administrative units to strengthen student support systems and improve service accessibility across the University.


Key responsibilities include:

  Career Services Support

  • Assist students in identifying career goals and pathways;
  • Organize career fairs, workshops, and employer networking events; and,
  • Guide in interview preparation, and jobs search strategies

  Counselling Support

  • Assist with programme implementation to support student’s mental health and well-being; and,
  • Collaborate with faculties t address students’ psychological needs.

      Administrative Duties

  • Maintain  accurate records of student interaction and progress;
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports on the Units activities; and,
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the Unit. Administrative Duties

     Outreach and Engagement

  • Assist with orientation sessions for new students to familiarize them with available career and counselling services; and,
  • Assist in building partnership with external organizations to create internship and job opportunities for students.

 

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

  • A Master’s degree in counselling psychology, clinical psychology, guidance and counselling, or a closely related field or;
  • Professional training and certification in counselling practice.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a tertiary or clinical  counselling setting



KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong competencies in psychological assessment, individual and group counselling and career development services
  • Knowledge of student mental health issues, crisis intervention, and systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and re[ot-writing skills
  • Demonstrate high ethical standard, empathy, confidentiality and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary academic environment
