HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER

A reputable automobile company is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join our team as a Health and Safety Officer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in occupational health and safety, excellent attention to detail, and a proven track record of ensuring workplace safety and compliance with regulations.

JOB PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Safety Supervisor and Management team, the Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for providing support to the management team, supervisors, foremen and workers. This position will help provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of the workshop.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Health & Safety Officer reports to the Health & Safety Supervisor and is responsible for but not limited to the following:
* Help ensure safety boards with postings including but not limited to: Health and safety policy, inspection and audit results, project hazard assessment, location of first aid, etc. are maintained and current.
* Ensure that permit documents are available and used for all jobs requiring such.
* Help prepare for and participate in safety audits.
* Communicate, coach and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.
* Help in training staff
* Coordinate meetings with workers and contractors where necessary
* Other duties as required.
* Provide support to the Health & Safety Supervisor by maintaining a visible presence on the field by performing regular site visits to the workshop.
* The officer will correct unsafe acts or conditions through the regular line of authority. However, the Health & Safety Officer may exercise emergency authority to prevent or stop unsafe acts when immediate action is required.
* Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the HSE programs on the field.
* Help regularly review and be familiar with all applicable rules and standards to ensure compliance.
* Contribute by way of data gathering through daily monitoring for the review and implementation of the company's Health, Safety and Environment Policy.
* Help provide direction, support and resource to all workers.
* Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately.
* Participate and assist field staff in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions where necessary.
* Help ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed.
* Ensure injured workers needed first aid and completed associated documentation.
* Monitor and follow up on workers at various duty posts.
* Help ensure new hires are orientated to our company's safety standards and all required documentation is completed accurately and forwarded to the Health & Safety Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
* Must have a Degree from a recognized university, Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety management. Professional certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is an advantage.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* Minimum of Two (2) years Health and Safety field experience in the processing industry.
