What you will do

The Legal Officer will provide legal and regulatory support to ensure the financial institution operates in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The role will support contract management, legal advisory, litigation, and regulatory engagements while mitigating legal risks to the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Legal Advisory & Documentation

  • Provide sound legal advice to management and business units on matters relating to the institution’s operations, products, and services.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, service level agreements, NDAs, MOUs, and other legal documents.

  • Monitor legal developments and advise on emerging risks and changes in laws that affect the institution.

2. Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial sector laws, including regulations issued by the Bank of Ghana, Data Protection Commission, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Support in preparing regulatory filings, and responses to queries from regulators.
  • Assist in the implementation of internal policies and corporate governance best practices.

3. Litigation & Dispute Resolution

  • Liaise with external counsel on ongoing litigation and dispute resolution matters.
  • Coordinate documentation, prepare briefs, and represent the institution’s interest in dispute matters.

4. Corporate Governance & Secretariat Support

  • Assist in the organization of Board and Committee meetings, including drafting resolutions, taking minutes, and maintaining statutory registers.
  • Ensure the institution remains compliant with Companies Act requirements and good corporate governance principles.

5. Risk Management & Training

  • Identify potential legal risks and recommend appropriate preventive strategies.


Who you are

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and qualification to practice law (i.e., BL from Ghana School of Law).
     
  • Minimum 2–5 years post-qualification experience, preferably in a financial institution, law firm, or regulatory body.
  • Sound knowledge of financial services regulations, corporate law, and contract law.


  • Experience in commercial litigation and regulatory engagement is an added advantage.
