The African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) is an economic policy institute supporting Africa’s long-term growth through transformation. We produce research, offer policy advice, and galvanize action for African countries to develop their economies, reduce poverty, and improve livelihoods for all their people. Communication plays a key role in putting ACET’s invaluable work in the hands of policymakers and other stakeholders who need it to help in their decision-making and policy formulation. ACET’s communications team is active across the organization, helping to shape research results, identifying and highlighting relevant messages, and ensuring that our audience receives our analysis in an accessible and easy-to-understand form.
ACET’s communications team will undertake several activities to position ACET as the go-to thought leader and preeminent institution on economic transformation in Africa.
To support this mission, ACET seeks to recruit a communications NSP to augment the team and provide digital and administrative support. This opportunity will also provide a platform for the NSP to gain experience using communications to drive policy uptake and further the transformation agenda in Africa, while working in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
The Communications NSP will work with ACET’s comms team for a year, supporting their work across all program area
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Knowledge Managers, the Communications NSP will be responsible for providing support to boost ACET’s digital presence via content uploads as well as general communications tasks as required.
Specific Responsibilities:
Specifically, the Communications NSP will:
Digital Use social media scheduling tools to upload weekly content on ACET’s channels, based on direction from the Editorial and Content Lead Monitor online engagement and flag opportunities to boost reach and visibility Use Canva to design event flyers, new staff welcome cards, and other digital assets using ACET’s existing templates, with input from the Editorial and Content Lead Manage technical delivery for ACET’s Zoom webinars, including creating speaker links, setting up sessions, and providing live technical assistance Work with the Editorial and Content Lead to curate and format ACET’s quarterly newsletter via Mailchimp, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with ACET’s brand style Work on procurement requests for camera crew and other comms support as and when needed for internal productions Support the Editorial and Content Lead to shoot and edit videos when needed Pitch creative ideas to promote ACET’s work and make it more accessible to a broader audience.
Content & Knowledge Management:
Work with Knowledge Manager to maintain ACET’s publications database, ensuring new reports, briefs, and other resources are uploaded promptly with correct links and descriptions onto ACET’s database Work with the Knowledge Manager to update ACET’s Wikipedia presence and create pages for flagship products Events Assist in developing guest lists, media lists etc for targeted events, drawing from the ACET database Send, and follow up on invitations for ACET events via Mailchimp or Mail merge, in collaboration with program units and under the supervision of the Events Coordinator.
General Communications Tasks:
Regularly update ACET’s media contacts and monitoring database and share weekly media coverage updates with the Events Coordinator for ACET’s weekly staff updates Periodically update ACET’s contact database to ensure accuracy and completeness Support communications initiatives, including helping to keep the team on track in task delivery by taking notes and sharing key actions from the team’s weekly comms catch-up meetings Keep ACET’s key moments calendar up-to-date by collating inputs from the team and program leads Assist with photography at staff events and manage ACET’s online photo and multimedia databases Perform additional communications-related tasks as assigned by the Director of Communications, Communications Manager, or Knowledge Manager
The Talented Individual
Education/Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in communications, Digital Media, Development Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
· Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant experience in communications, digital content creation, or social media management (previous internship experience may be considered).
· Experience working in a development, policy, or non-profit environment is an advantage Knowledge, Skills, Abilities.
· Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
· Proficiency in social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, WordPress, Mailchimp etc.) and a clear understanding of digital engagement strategies.
· Strong design skills using Canva (experience with Adobe Creative Suite is an added advantage).
· Comfortable managing Zoom or similar webinar platforms, including technical setup and live event support.
· Ability to conduct targeted internet research and maintain media monitoring databases.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines under pressure.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with content management systems (CMS) is a plus.
· Flexible, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid (on-site/remote) environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and with diverse stakeholders.
Desirable:
· Experience with basic video editing tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut) is an advantage.
· Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is an advantage.
· Ability to create simple data visualizations or infographics using templates is a plus.
