JOB SUMMARY
The Production Inventory / Stocks Accountant is responsible for tracking, recording, and reconciling all inventory and stock movements within the production process. This includes raw materials, packaging materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods. The role ensures accurate and timely reporting on inventory usage, stock levels, and variances, while supporting cost control and production planning in line with operational and financial targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Inventory & Stock Management
• Maintain accurate records of all inventory items including raw materials, chemicals, packaging materials, consumables, and finished products.
• Monitor daily stock movements between warehouses, production, and dispatch areas.
• Record and reconcile materials issued to production based on batch sheets and production orders.
• Track work-in-progress (WIP) inventory and ensure proper valuation.
• Conduct regular stock counts (cycle counts and monthly physical stock-taking) and reconcile with system records.
• Investigate and report stock variances and recommend corrective actions.
Production Accounting
• Monitor and capture daily production data, including material usage, output, rework, and wastage.
• Analyze actual material consumption against standard consumption (BOM) and report variances.
• Work closely with the production and warehouse teams to validate production reports and material movement logs.
• Ensure correct costing and classification of all production inputs and outputs.
Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory and production reports.
• Generate reports on inventory turnover, aging, reorder levels, and slow-moving or obsolete stock.
• Support month-end and year-end inventory closings and ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
• Maintain documentation for all inventory movements and adjustments for audit and traceability purposes.
Controls & Compliance
• Enforce inventory control procedures and ensure proper stock handling across all departments.
• Ensure all stock transactions are accurately recorded in the accounting or ERP system.
• Support internal and external audit exercises related to inventory and cost of sales.
• Work with the Finance Team to ensure inventory valuation aligns with IFRS and company policies.
Collaboration
• Work closely with procurement, production, quality control, and warehouse teams.
• Coordinate with the finance team to ensure accurate posting of stock-related entries.
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting for material requirements and production planning.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in inventory or cost accounting, preferably in manufacturing (FMCG or chemical/soap & detergent industry).
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles and manufacturing cost systems.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Sage, QuickBooks, Tally).
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, reconciliation tools).

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Based in the factory/production environment with regular visits to production floors.
• May require occasional extended hours during stock-taking, audit, or month-end closures.
