Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist operation personnel to implement and manage a proactive, behavior-based approach to compliance with an emphasis on personal responsibility, incident prevention and management systems approach
  • Assist with the compilation of routine and ad-hoc KPI reporting as it relates to regulatory safety compliance (DOT, FMCSA, FTA, OSHA) and company policy and procedures
  • Ensure operating authority’s and associated BASIC information is accurate; recommend action plans when improvement/correction is needed
  • Monitor compliance of operations to ensure all personnel comply with company policies and procedures, as well as DOT regulatory compliance 
  • Maintain the Federal SMS register, company’s internal DOT accident register, and routinely review all accidents to determine DOT reportability and the requirement of DOT post-accident drug/alcohol testing
  • Maintain post-accident drug and alcohol testing detail (CCFs, decision making forms, missed test documentation, etc.)   
  • Liaise with the drug and alcohol third-party administrator (TPA), ensuring accurate reporting and compliance; test type, safety letter of concern follow-up, SAP documents (when applicable), positive notifications, and required DER trainings 
  • Liaise with the company’s online driver qualification file (DQF) system vendor and review compliance as it relates to DOT regulations and company policy; providing training and follow-up where process improvements are identified 
  • Assist operation personnel with all preparations and tracking of action plans for safety, insurance, and/or agency inspections/follow-up 
  • Seek out industry best practices and more effective and efficient methods to achieve operational excellence in compliance
  • Perform various other compliance & reporting duties as assigned (i.e. ANSI Z10, OSHA, and EPA).

Skills Required and Physical Demands: 

  • Experience networking/partnering with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA) other governmental agencies 
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and applicability to passenger transportation 
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and training skills 
  • Strong computer, analytical and organizational skills  
  • Available for after hours situations

Education and Qualifications: 

Hard Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or GED required. 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • 5 years of comprehensive safety or loss control experience in transportation   
  • Bachelor’s degree
