Job Description — Demi Chef (Hot Kitchen)



Reporting to: Sous Chef / Chef de Partie in the Hot Kitchen

Department: Food & Beverage – Kitchen (Hot Kitchen section)

Location: Karachi, Pakistan


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the preparation, cooking and presentation of hot kitchen dishes (grilled, sautéed, roasted, pan-fried, meat, poultry, fish) according to menu standards.
  • Ensure mise en place of the hot section is completed and the workstation is ready before service.
  • Follow recipes, portion control guidelines and presentation standards set by the Head Chef / Kitchen Management.
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and cleanliness: ensure workstations, equipment and utensils are clean; follow food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, sanitation).
  • Monitor stock, ingredients usage and work with senior chefs to ensure timely supply and quality of raw materials.
  • Work under pressure during service periods, ensuring timely delivery of dishes and coordination with front-of-house and kitchen team.
  • Assist with training or coaching junior kitchen staff (commis chefs, kitchen helpers) in the hot section.
  • Communicate effectively with Sous Chef / Head Chef about any shortages, malfunctions or service issues.
  • Assist with special events, catering or buffet setups as needed, ensuring hot kitchen responsibilities are covered.
  • Adhere to hotel policies, including personal grooming, attendance, uniforms and kitchen safety.



Qualifications & Skills:


  • Diploma or certificate in Culinary Arts / Hotel Management or relevant vocational training is preferred.
  • Prior kitchen experience (1-3 years or more) working in a hot kitchen environment in a hotel or restaurant.
  • Good culinary skills in hot food preparation techniques (grilling, sautéing, roasting, poaching etc).
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work as part of a team under fast-paced kitchen service conditions.
  • Good communication skills, ability to follow instructions, multitask and maintain quality under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays as required in a hotel kitchen.
