The Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing the investment portfolios of a pension fund, ensuring that contributions from members are invested wisely to generate sustainable returns, while also complying with regulatory (NPRA) requirements. The role balances growth, risk management, and liquidity to secure members’ retirement benefits. Here’s an overview of their responsibilities and key aspects of the role:


Investment Strategy Execution: Implement the fund’s approved investment strategy across asset classes (equities, bonds, alternatives, private equity, real estate, etc.)

  • .Due Diligence: Evaluate and vet potential investment opportunities, including funds, managers, and direct projects, to ensure they meet return and risk expectations
  • .Portfolio Monitoring: Track performance of all investments against benchmarks, identify underperformance, and recommend rebalancing where needed
  • .Risk Management: Monitor exposure to market, currency, liquidity, and credit risks to safeguard members’ assets
  • .Liquidity Planning: Ensure sufficient cash flow is available to meet benefit payouts, especially with retiring members
  • .Governance & Compliance: Ensure investment decisions comply with NPRA guidelines and internal policies
  • .Reporting: Prepare periodic investment performance reports for trustees, regulators, and management
  • .Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with custodians, fund managers, regulators, and other partners
