About This Role

This role will be responsible in supporting the implementation and maintenance of AGBL’s Environmental Management System (ISO 14001 EMS) through environmental monitoring, compliance tracking, pollution‑prevention controls and reporting. The role also supports Life of Mine (LOM), closure and reclamation planning and coordinate environmental awareness and training programs to promote sustainability and regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Superintendent and Senior Environmental Officers to ensure effective EMS documentation, compliance data management, and timely close‑out of environmental action items.
  • Conduct environmental audits and inspections to assess operational compliance and environmental performance.
  • Support the team in addressing environmental concerns and queries related to the AGBL Environmental Management System and applicable environmental regulations.
  • Assess the environmental awareness and competency of the workforce, identify knowledge gaps, and support the delivery of targeted training programs.
  • Participate in relevant HSE meetings to ensure environmental matters are adequately addressed and actioned.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to reduce environmental impacts through waste minimization, water and energy conservation, and other improvement initiatives.
  • Support internal management system reviews and audits in preparation for external inspections and certifications.
  • Coordinate and support responses to environmental incidents, including spills or releases of hazardous substances, ensuring safe response, adherence to procedures, and proper cleanup and disposal.
  • Engage with site personnel on environmental issues under the direction of senior officers.
  • Collaborate with other AGBL departments (operations, projects, contractors, procurement, and document control) to integrate environmental requirements into work activities and processes.
  • Serve as an active member of the site HSE team, contributing to the implementation of site health, safety, and environmental management plans.
  • Provide assistance to and coordinate with both internal and external auditors during environmental audits.
  • Assist in the preparation and dissemination of environmental documentation and reports for operational and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure relevant stakeholders are informed of environmental action deadlines and support the tracking and completion of assigned actions.
  • Ensure timely reporting, notification, and support in the investigation of environmental incidents.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.


Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, or Biological Science, with a minimum of 3 years relevant environmental management experience in mining, manufacturing or a regulatory agency (e.g., EPA).
  • Possession of NEBOSH or IEMA environmental certification will be an advantage.
  • Minerals Commission HSE Officer Certificate of Competency is desirable.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian Class B Driver’s Licence as a minimum.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable Ghanaian Health and Safety legislation particularly the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I. 2182), including L.I. 2173, L.I. 2174, L.I. 2176 and L.I. 2177.
  • Sound understanding of Safety Management Systems and their practical implementation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in risk management and loss prevention processes.
  • Solid understanding of environmental aspects associated with mining and mineral processing operations.
  • Ability to think quickly, remain detail‑oriented and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare procedures, policies, reports and formal correspondence.
  • Ability to read and interpret operating instructions, procedures, policies and regulatory documentation.
  • Practical knowledge of the use of environmental and occupational health sampling equipment for assessing potential health and environmental hazards.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and goal‑oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
