Job Summary:
The Academic Head is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all academic operations within the school. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, effective curriculum implementation, and the holistic development of learners. The Academic Head will lead and support teaching staff, coordinate assessments and interventions, manage academic schedules, and ensure compliance with educational standards and policies. The ideal candidate will be a passionate educator with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supervision of Teaching and Learning

  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and evaluation of all teaching and learning activities across the school.
  • Ensure that instructional practices are developmentally appropriate, engaging, and aligned with the school's curriculum and educational philosophy.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers to enhance instructional quality.
  • Support teachers in implementing diverse teaching strategies, including play-based, Montessori, and child-led learning approaches.
  • Monitor and ensure the effective use of teaching and learning materials.

2. Learner Reporting, Orientation, and Settling

  • Coordinate the orientation and settling process for new learners and their families to ensure a smooth transition into the school community.
  • Oversee the preparation and dissemination of learner progress reports, ensuring they are accurate, timely, and provide meaningful feedback to parents.
  • Conduct parent-teacher meetings and provide guidance on learner progress and development.
  • Address and resolve any academic concerns raised by parents or guardians.

3. Coordination of Assessments, Interventions, and Remedial Programmes

  • Plan and coordinate all formative and summative assessments across all grade levels.
  • Analyse assessment data to identify learning gaps and inform instructional planning.
  • Develop and implement intervention and remedial programmes to support learners who require additional assistance.
  • Monitor the progress of learners in intervention programmes and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Ensure that assessment practices are fair, consistent, and aligned with educational standards.

4. Preparation and Management of Timetables

  • Prepare and manage class timetables, homework timetables, and other academic schedules.
  • Ensure that timetables are balanced, efficient, and meet the needs of learners and teachers.
  • Make adjustments to timetables as necessary to accommodate changes in staffing, events, or school activities.

5. Supervision of Teaching and Learning Materials

  • Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and effective use of all teaching and learning materials.
  • Ensure that resources are age-appropriate, accessible, and aligned with curriculum requirements.
  • Work with teachers to identify and procure new resources to enhance teaching and learning.

6. Preparation of Academic Requisitions

  • Prepare and submit academic requisitions for teaching materials, equipment, and other resources.
  • Manage the academic budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated appropriately and cost-effectively.
  • Coordinate with the administration team to ensure timely procurement and delivery of academic supplies.

7. Submission of Daily Reports

  • Prepare and submit accurate daily academic reports to the School Principal or Managing Director.
  • Provide updates on teaching and learning activities, student attendance, assessments, and any academic concerns.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of academic performance, interventions, and staff activities.

8. Leadership and Staff Development

  • Lead, mentor, and support teaching staff to foster a culture of professional growth and excellence.
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and supportive working environment.

9. Curriculum Development and Implementation

  • Ensure the effective implementation of the school's curriculum across all grade levels.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and development of the curriculum to ensure it remains relevant and engaging.
  • Stay updated on current educational trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Montessori Education, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Child Development Knowledge: Strong understanding of child development (ages 0–6) and age-appropriate pedagogical practices.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to prepare timetables, academic reports, and school improvement plans.
  • Language: Excellent written and spoken English.
