Our client, Eric Hassell Shipping, is seeking a proactive and self-motivated Human Resources Generalist to fill the position of Human Resources Officer for the Eric Hassell Group of Companies.

This family-owned group operates within the shipping and logistics industry and includes Eric Hassell Shipping, EHS Freightliner Ltd, Blue Waters Shipping and Aeropost.

The Human Resources Officer will be the central HR resource, responsible for developing, implementing and managing the HR function across all companies within the group.  This role promotes sound employee relations practices engendering a positive workplace culture through consistency in HR policies, compliance with labour laws and effective talent management.

The Role

The Human Resources Officer reports to the Managing Director and will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing HR strategies that are in alignment with the group’s business objectives.
  • Providing HR reports and analytics to management for decision-making.
  • Leading the recruitment and selection processes across different departments.
  • Creating and standardising job descriptions in alignment with organisational goals.
  • Managing onboarding and orientation programs tailored to the companies’ needs.
  • Serving as the primary HR contact for employees across all companies.
  • Handling grievances, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture across diverse teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with labour laws, company policies, and industry regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Developing employment contracts and all related HR documentation.
  • Managing the performance appraisal process across companies.
  • Identifying training needs and coordinating group-wide learning initiatives.
  • Ensuring consistency in compensation structures across companies.
  • Monitoring and reporting on HR metrics.
  • Promoting occupational health and safety standards.
  • Supporting wellness programs and employee assistance initiatives.


The Candidate

The Human Resources Officer should:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience with extensive knowledge of labour laws and their application.
  • Be proficient in the use of the various components of Microsoft Office Suite; namely Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Be able to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Possess excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills.
  • Be able to manage multiple priorities across diverse business units.
  • Be able to work in a team and engage team members to achieve results.
