Job Purpose
To invest profitably in securities on behalf of private, corporate and institutional clients and increase the firm’s wallet share of these categories of investors.
Primary Responsibilities
• Buy and sell securities on behalf of private, corporate and institutional clients and proprietary trading accounts.
• Devise strategies to execute trades at prices better than the target price.
• Ensure that trades are executed according to the rules of the Ghana Stock Exchange and universal market integrity rules.
• Provide advice on the trading activities of the company to internal key stakeholders (as required).
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key market players including regulators, other brokerage firms, portfolio managers and prospective investors in order to avail the firm of the synergies from such relationships.
• Maintain professional relationships by interacting with other brokers, portfolio managers, agent banks etcetera, so as to be informed quickly of developing events that may affect the market.
• Keep abreast of business opportunities and devise strategies to convert them into viable and profitable ventures.
• Participate in the development and implementation of a framework to ensure continuous analysis of the market.
• Prepare daily report on trading (snapshot of market activities).
• Monitor macroeconomic and other environmental trends that may affect the value of investment portfolios.
• Identify and engage with prospective clients to grow existing client base.
• Improve levels of service to staff and customers
• Comply with company policies, regulations and rules
• Build and maintain excellent relationships with clients
• Maintain suitable and adequate documentation of all work performed
• Ad-hoc projects as may be required from management from time to time
Work Experience (Education, required skills, and job-specific requirements)
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Marketing or related fields; MBA (preferred but not required)
• Successful completion of the GISI, GSE certification courses, or any other courses specified by the Securities and Exchange Commission
• Must be a Registered Securities Dealer with the Ghana Stock Exchange
• Three (3) or more years proven experience in securities trading financial services
• Strong working knowledge of the capital markets – equities, fixed income, derivatives, commodities, and currency
• Ability to disseminate investment research and trade ideas
• Understanding of financial analysis and valuation
• Intuitive understanding of macroeconomic theory, monetary and fiscal policy and their respective impact on markets
• Solid quantitative and analytical skills
• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills are required
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and clients’ information
• High sense of responsibility, accountability, and dependability
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a good team player
