Role Summary
The Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring the company adheres to all Ghanaian tax laws, statutory regulations, and customs requirements. This role involves managing tax filings, coordinating with regulatory authorities, maintaining compliance records, and advising management on regulatory changes to protect company value and manage tax risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance: Ensure timely preparation, review, and submission of GRA tax returns, including CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE, Excise Duty, and other applicable taxes.
  • Statutory Calendar: Maintain the tax and statutory compliance calendar, ensuring all statutory payments are completed within prescribed deadlines.
  • Reconciliations: Reconcile tax accounts with the GRA Taxpayer Portal and follow up on tax credits, refunds, exemptions, assessments, and disputes.
  • Customs & Import/Export: Ensure compliance with customs and import/export requirements (ICUMS) and review customs duties, import taxes, clearing expenses, and related accounting records.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Coordinate with GRA, Customs, banks, auditors, tax consultants, and other regulatory authorities on compliance matters.
  • Advisory: Monitor changes in Ghanaian tax laws and regulations and advise management on their impact.
  • Accounting Treatment: Ensure proper accounting treatment of VAT, WHT, duties, provisions, accruals, and other statutory items.
  • Audit Support: Support month-end and year-end closing from a tax and compliance perspective, and coordinate external, GRA, and customs audits (including preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents).
  • Record Keeping: Maintain complete and accurate tax, statutory, audit, and regulatory records.
  • Reporting: Prepare periodic compliance reports for the GM - Finance and ensure timely escalation of any significant compliance issues.

Key Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Ghanaian tax & statutory requirements (VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT, Excise Duty, and Customs).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Office, and ERP/SAP systems.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, strong communication, and time-management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification (ACCA, CMA, ICA Ghana, CPA, or equivalent) is preferred.

Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Tax, Audit, or Compliance.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Ghana tax/statutory compliance (GRA, Customs, auditors, banks).
  • Experience in the manufacturing or import/export sector is an added advantage.
