About Petrosol

Petrosol is a proudly Ghanaian, ISO-certified Oil Marketing Company (OMC) operating within the downstream petroleum sector. Founded in 2006 as a petroleum consultancy and later securing an OMC licence in 2013, the company commenced operations in 2014 and has since grown to operate over 115 fuel stations across Ghana, employing approximately 490 people. Position Summary

The Risk and Internal Audit Officer is responsible for strengthening the company's governance, risk management, and internal control systems. This role evaluates processes, conducts risk assessments and compliance reviews, and ensures that policies, procedures, and operations align with both regulatory standards and the company's strategic objectives.

The successful candidate will conduct risk assessments and internal audit reviews, evaluate business processes and controls, document findings, and work with relevant teams to implement practical improvements. This position provides an opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to contribute directly to the organization's risk management, governance, and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities


1. Risk Management (25%)

  • Support the identification, assessment, and monitoring of financial, operational, regulatory, reputational, and strategic risks facing the company.
  • Conduct risk assessments across business units and operational activities.
  • Maintain and update risk registers and supporting risk documentation.
  • Monitor identified risks and track the implementation of agreed mitigation measures.
  • Support management in developing practical risk responses and control improvements.
  • Monitor emerging risks and communicate significant exposures to management.
  • Promote risk awareness and accountability across the organization.
  • Provide advice on emerging risks, including those related to oil marketing and HSE compliance.


2. Internal Audit Execution (30%)

  • Support the development and implementation of risk-based internal audit plans.
  • Plan, execute, and report on internal audits across all departments.
  • Conduct internal audit reviews across operational, financial, administrative, procurement, inventory, and other relevant business processes.
  • Evaluate the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of internal controls, business processes, and compliance with applicable laws and standards.
  • Review transactions, records, systems, and processes to identify control weaknesses, irregularities, and inefficiencies.
  • Test compliance with company policies, procedures, applicable laws, regulations, and established controls.
  • Review and assess the effectiveness of financial controls over procurements, sales, distribution, and depot operations.
  • Document audit procedures, evidence, observations, and findings accurately.
  • Identify root causes of control deficiencies and recommend practical corrective actions.
  • Prepare clear and concise internal audit reports for management review.
  • Follow up on outstanding audit findings and monitor the implementation of agreed recommendations.
  • Conduct special investigations into suspected fraud, irregularities, and operational lapses.
  • Support special reviews, investigations, and other assurance assignments as required.


3. Compliance & Governance (20%)

  • Monitor adherence to approved policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations (NPA, EPA, tax, HSE, etc.) and internal company policies.
  • Identify gaps between established procedures and actual business practices.
  • Recommend improvements that strengthen accountability, efficiency, and control effectiveness.
  • Support periodic reviews and updates of internal control procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to HSE standards in line with the oil and gas industry.
  • Support management in strengthening corporate governance practices and ethical standards.
  • Maintain appropriate audit and risk documentation for reference.


4. Reporting & Advisory (10%)

  • Prepare and present audit findings, risk assessments, and recommendations to management and the Audit Committee.
  • Track the implementation of corrective actions and follow up on outstanding audit issues.
  • Provide periodic risk and audit reports to Senior Management for decision-making.
  • Deliver clear and timely reports to support decision-making.


5. Leadership & Competence (5%)

  • Act as an exemplary brand ambassador to inspire others to live the company's values.
  • Guide teams responsibly and escalate complaints, grievances, or issues when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience


Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, Auditing, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in risk management, internal audit, or compliance, preferably in the oil and gas or a related industry.


Preferred (Added Advantage)

  • Professional certification such as CIA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CISA, or CFE.

Key Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of internal audit standards and risk frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO 31000).
  • Familiarity with the oil marketing industry, regulations, and HSE standards.

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, including ERP systems, data analysis tools, audit software, and MS Office 365 Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail.
