RESPONSIBILITIES

Role Purpose: The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing Environmental and Social Action Plan in line with project commitment, lender requirement and applicable national regulations. The role ensures that ESAP actions are implemented on time, evidence is compiled and verified, and progress is clearly reported to internal management and external stakeholders including lenders. This role supports FG Gold’s compliance with IFC Performance Standards and lender expectations during construction, transition to operations, and workforce demobilisation phases. The Sustainability Coordinator will work closely with site departments and contractors to ensure effective systems, reporting, and practical delivery of environmental and social commitments.

The position will also contribute to environmental and social performance work streams including but not limited to environment management control, RAP, community investment, local content as specified by Sustainability Manager and the Deputy.   

 

ESAP Implementation, Tracking & Close Out

Maintain and update the FG Gold ESAP tracker, ensuring clear responsibilities, deadlines, progress updates, and supporting evidence for each action.
Coordinate routine follow-ups with departments and contractors to drive timely closure of ESAP actions.
Verify ESAP close-out evidence is complete, accurate, and aligned with lender/IFC expectations before submission.
Identify gaps, delays, or implementation risks and escalate to the Sustainability Manager / E&S Manager with recommended corrective and preventive actions.
Support implementation of environmental and social management plans linked to ESAP actions (e.g., labour management, stakeholder engagement, grievance, biodiversity, water and waste controls).
Maintain clear document control and records management to support audit readiness and demonstrate compliance.
 

IFC Compliance and Reporting

Support site-level alignment with IFC Performance Standards (PS1–PS8), and other international best practice focusing on practical implementation and evidence-based compliance.
Coordinate preparation of internal and external ESG / lender reports including monthly and quarterly updates, action trackers, and compliance summaries.
Support readiness for lender monitoring visits, audits, and independent engineer / ESAP verification activities through preparation of:
ESAP progress packs
evidence folders
updated registers and trackers
corrective action closure documentation
Track and follow up on corrective and preventive actions arising from audits, incidents, community issues, and monitoring visits.
Consolidate E&S performance data across departments (Environment, Community Relations, HR, Procurement, HSE, Security where applicable).
Support compliance with construction demobilisation/ retrenchment-related commitments and ensure records are maintained for workforce transition and general environmental management functions as required.
 

Stakeholder Systems and Environmental Management

Assist with environmental incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and close-out tracking (including evidence and follow-up verification).
Participate in site inspections and contractor audits, and ensure findings are logged, communicated, and closed out effectively.
Support preparation and maintenance of environmental documentation and registers required for IFC compliance and lender reviews.
Work closely with Community Relations, HR, Procurement, HSE, Construction, and contractor teams to ensure consistent implementation of ESAP commitments.
Support the coordination and maintenance of key E&S registers, such as:
Stakeholder Engagement records
Grievance register and resolution tracking
Incident and near-miss records (E&S related)
Training attendance and competency records
Local content and recruitment evidence (where relevant to ESAP)
Support monitoring and reporting of community and labour risks (including potential increased uptake in artisanal mining activities linked to retrenchment or demobilisation).
Support internal awareness and training coordination on key ESG / IFC topics (e.g., grievance handling, stakeholder engagement, labour standards, incident reporting, E&S compliance expectations).
Promote FG Gold values through respectful engagement and professional conduct with colleagues, contractors, and local stakeholders.
Support implementation and monitoring of FG Gold’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) requirements related to construction and operations readiness.
Support compliance tracking for environmental permits, commitments, and contractor controls, ensuring required inspections and records are maintained.
 

QUALIFICATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Educational Background: 

Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related discipline
OR
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, E&S compliance, ESAP implementation, ESG reporting, IFC-aligned projects, or lender compliance work.
 

Experience:

Proven experience supporting ESAP delivery and/or E&S compliance programs on large projects (mining, construction, energy, or infrastructure).
Demonstrated experience coordinating reporting, action tracking, and close-out evidence for audits or lender requirements.
Strong experience working with cross-functional site teams and contractors.
Ability to work shifts and remote rosters
Strong communication and teamwork skills
 

Languages: 

Fluency in English.

Ability to produce clear, structured reports and maintain accurate trackers and registers.
Competent in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and document control systems.
Ability to work effectively in a remote mine site environment with deadlines and reporting cycles.
Physical Requirements: Excellent physical condition to handle demanding work environments.
