II. Job Purpose

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for serving as the Bank's lead financial officer overseeing, representing and directing the organization's financial goals, objectives, and budgets. The CFO heads the affiliate's Finance Department and all financial and accounting operations of the Bank. The position is responsible for adhering to all related generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), tax and regulatory laws, rules and regulations to adequately and accurately reflect the financial position of the Bank at all times.

Iii. Key Responsibilities


  •  Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements of the bank, the branches and all units
  •  Preparing and maintaining the bank's budget.
  •  Supervising the work of the entire Financial Control Department.
  •  Provide financial statements and information to external users and provide information for:
  •  Management and Board of Directors to be reviewed at least 3 weeks before the date of Board meeting
  •  Government / Regulators
  •  Central bank of The Gambia – Audits
  •  Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) – Month end Reports and Audit Risk Review
  •  Tax Authorities – Tax payments and liaison with Tax Consultants
  •  Auditors – Preparation and issue of Audited Financial Statements
  •  External Requests / Surveys
  •  Provide information on Banking laws and regulations and impact on business
  •  Supervise and prepare the following information
  •  Monthly performance for Management
  •  Month end Performance to Group Office
  •  Weekly Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss account to enable the Treasurer Prepare ALCO Reports
  •  Consolidated Worksheet Reports
  •  Statutory Financial Reports
  •  Conduct daily review and management of the bank’s GL and PL
  •  Record and Classify transactions (coding)
  •  Ensure all Month end issues are resolved
  •  Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by Management
  •  Carry out other duties as indicated in the Balanced Scorecard for Financial Controller.


BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT 


  •  Assist in putting together a comprehensive strategy for EGM for the year.
  •  Ensure that adequate monitoring mechanisms are put in place to ensure that approved strategy is implemented.
  •  Monitor developments in the economy to ensure timely and appropriate response by way of amendments to our financial strategy, policies and procedures
  •  Review the affiliate’s processes and procedures of key product areas to uncover areas in the service delivery chain which need improvement
  •  Assist business departments to put in place a monthly measuring mechanism to track performance of responsible officers
  •  Conduct competitor analysis, market research and market intelligence and report and recommend on the best way forward based on findings.
  •  Undertake any other assignment and may be assigned by Management


VI.JOB PROFILE 

Experience/Competencies


  • At least 10 years working experience in a finance role 5 of which must be at senior office leadership role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization 
  • Strong problem solving and ability to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis 
  • High level of integrity and dependability
  • Experience in high level relationship building and maintenance 
  • Experience working with boards, regulators, auditors, and key external stakeholders.
  • Make and implement crucial recommendations
  • Good organizational and time management skills are highly desirable
  • Strong networks within the corporate market


Education & Professional Qualifications


  • Professional Accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or equivalent 
  • Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting or MBA is an added advantage
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IFRS, Financial Reporting Standards, and Regulatory Compliance
