The Management Trainee Officer (MTO) – Finance will undergo a structured training and development program designed to build core competencies in financial accounting, cost management, and reporting within a manufacturing environment.
The role aims to develop future finance professionals capable of supporting accurate and timely financial operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and statutory requirements, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibility
Accounting & Finance
Participate in recording day-to-day accounting transactions and journal postings.
Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
Support working capital analysis — tracking stock, receivables, and payables.
Learn and participate in bank reconciliations and treasury management.
Assist in cost allocation and budgeting exercises.
Support statutory compliance — VAT, WHT, and tax filings.
Production
Understand and document production process workflows from raw material to finished goods
Participate in production process audits and identify inefficiencies or cost gaps.
Analyse production costing — direct materials, labor, and overheads.
Work with production teams to understand Bill of Materials (BOM) and standard cost structures
Assist in preparing production variance reports (actual vs. standard).
Procurement & Warehousing
Study the full procurement cycle — from purchase requisition to vendor payment.
Analyse vendor databases, pricing trends, and supplier mapping.
Identify cost-saving opportunities in procurement.
Understand inventory receipt, storage, and issuance procedures
Support inventory valuation during month-end financial closing
Sales & Marketing
Study customer segmentation, buying patterns, and credit exposure.
Conduct on-site customer visits; document requirements, complaints and competitor activities
Assist in preparing customer proposals, learning pricing strategy and credit terms.
Participate in supervised negotiations and sales order processing.
Study aquaculture production processes to understand product application in customer operations.
Prepare reports on customer challenges, competitor insights, and internal improvements.
Key Qualification, Experience, Skills, and Competencies
Minimum Requirements:
a. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline from a recognized top university in Kenya
b. Recent graduate or awaiting graduation results with strong academic performance (minimum First-Class Upper Division or equivalent).
c. Excellent computer literacy, particularly advanced Excel skills; familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP Business One will be an advantage.
d. Strong grasp of fundamental accounting principles, financial reporting concepts, and business analytics.
