Job Advert: Long-Term Mine Planning Engineer
We are seeking a Long-Term Mine Planning Engineer to join our technical services team at a large-scale mining operation. This role is crucial for developing and implementing strategic plans that will maximize the mine's value and ensure its long-term viability.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain strategic medium- and long-term mine plans, including graphical layouts that illustrate mining areas, infrastructure, and sequencing.
Generate detailed life-of-mine schedules, clearly defining ore supply, crushing and milling plans, and gold forecasts.
• Conduct financial and economic evaluations, including cost modelling, to support feasibility studies and strategic reviews.
• Manage the annual Mineral Reserve Statement, ensuring accurate monthly depletions.
• Produce monthly reports on production performance, highlighting variances against plan and providing annual production reforecasts.
• Perform regular mine-to-mill reconciliations and calculate the Mine Call Factor (MCF) to monitor ore accounting.
Collaborate with geology, processing, and operations teams to ensure alignment of all plans.
Champion the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance planning accuracy and efficiency.
• Identify opportunities for continuous business improvement across the mine planning process.
• Mentor and train junior team members to enhance their mine planning capabilities.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
• A BSc in Mining Engineering is essential. An MSc is considered a plus.
• Proficiency in underground mine design and scheduling software such as Datamine or Surpac.
• A Full Blasting License and registration with a "Recognised Professional Organisation" (as per the JORC Code) are mandatory.
• Proven experience in gold or precious metals mining is a strong advantage.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong aptitude for mathematics.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• A flexible and proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
