About This Role

This role will be responsible for the execution and supervision of maintenance activities on processing plant mechanical installations, and to provide technical support to mechanical technicians across day and night shifts, including call‑out duties, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently and in compliance with applicable standards and instructions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out all duties in full compliance with applicable regulations of Government of Ghana agencies, relevant environmental, health and safety legislation, and AGBL policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in maintenance review programs and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) processes to improve the reliability and performance of processing plant equipment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the site Environmental Management Plan in all work activities.
  • Liaise with contractors on mechanical refurbishment and planned maintenance works to ensure alignment with approved work plans, schedules, and operational expectations.
  • Supervise the execution of mechanical installation, refurbishment and maintenance activities in compliance with statutory requirements, engineering standards and AGBL regulations.
  • Conduct periodic audits of processing plant areas during refurbishment and maintenance activities to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Support the Mechanical Superintendent – Processing Plant in developing and implementing condition monitoring routes and inspection programs for plant equipment.
  • Maintain the integrity and reliability of fixed plant mechanical assets, including crushers, conveyor systems, pumps, Ball and SAG mills, vibrating screens and feeders, cranes and hoists, cyclones, tanks and associated equipment.
  • Identify sub‑standard work practices, determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurrence.
  • Utilize departmental maintenance systems to support effective work planning safe and efficient execution, performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support shutdown planning, coordination and execution to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and within timelines.
  • Monitor the general physical condition of plant assets and report emerging defects, risks or deterioration.
  • Ensure full and effective utilization of MGBL’s work management system to plan, execute and record all maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate refurbishment contractors to meet agreed timelines, proactively identify risks and escalate actual or potential delays.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports on work progress, schedule adherence, cost control and quality performance within area of responsibility.
  • Assist the Unit Manager – Mechanical in the preparation, implementation and control of the annual departmental budget.
  • Identify, communicate and support the implementation of cost‑reduction and efficiency‑improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor equipment performance using asset health systems and proactively address indicators of potential failure.
  • Report operational issues, risks, and improvement opportunities to the Mechanical Superintendent and support the execution of approved improvement projects.
  • Perform other work‑related duties as assigned from time to time.


Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, preferably within a metallurgical or mineral processing plant environment.
  • Holder of a valid Inspecting Engineer’s Certificate of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Poven competence in maintenance and project management of processing plant infrastructure, particularly refurbishment activities.
  • Working knowledge of standardized work and asset management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical information.
  • High attention to detail, recognizing that minor deficiencies can result in significant operational impact.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance expertise within mining and/or extractive metallurgy environments.
