Job Purpose

Responsible for open pit designs, planning, and monitoring the execution of drill and blast, and short-medium term mine production plans to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations. This role involves close collaboration with technical and operational staff to develop and implement short, medium, and long-term mine production planning strategies that align with operational goals and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Mine Planning & Technical Design

  • Produce open pit design and scheduling from optimized pit shell.
  • Generate project designs (Haul Road, drainage, waste dump, stockpiles, embankment).
  • Assist in the preparation of Life of Mine (LoM) plans, annual reserve estimation, and reconciliation.
  • Monitor the execution of drill and blast activities.
  • Generate mine plans in compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Play a major role in the preparation of the annual budget in the mining department.
  • Preparation of a 3-month rolling mine production forecast plus end-of-year actual and forecast projections and presentation to stakeholders.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly pre-planning meetings to gather information from various stakeholders to produce mine production plans for execution by the mine operations department.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety, and risk management standards and best practices.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical support and training to junior mining engineers.
  • Collaborate closely with technical and operational staff to align planning strategies with operational goals.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned by senior leadership.

Required Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience with a strong background in long-term planning will be an advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge in open pit mine operations planning.
  • Must possess a Blasting Certificate of Competency.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license.

  • Extensive knowledge in open pit mine operations planning.
  • Open pit designs and scheduling.
  • Extensive knowledge of Mining Methods, strengths and weaknesses of the methods, and their applicable use.
  • Technical experience in the use of mine planning software (Surpac, MineSched, Deswik, Xpac).
  • Short and medium-term mine production planning.
