TECHNICAL SALES REPRESENTATIVE

Our client is a multinational chemical manufacturing firm renowned for its high-quality paint products and innovative solutions, serving the construction and building industries across Ghana and beyond.
Scope
The Technical Sales Representative will provide technical guidance on coatings, surface preparation and corrosion protection while driving sales growth through tailored product recommendations and effective customer engagement. The role will focus on promoting specialised and high-performance coating systems, converting technical consultations into sales, and developing business opportunities with contractors, corporate clients and other key customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, architects, corporate clients, real estate developers, and bulk buyers to generate repeat business and secure high-volume orders.
- Provide technical advice on paint products, coating systems, surface preparation methods, and corrosion protection solutions to customers.
- Identify customer needs and assess surface conditions, environmental factors, and project specifications to recommend suitable products and coating systems.
- Guide customers on surface preparation methods and standards, including cleaning, abrasive blasting, priming, and other application best practices.
- Recommend appropriate protective coating systems for steel, concrete, marine and industrial surfaces.
- Ensure compliance with applicable coating, surface preparation and application standards and other relevant standards.
- Collaborate with the sales team to provide technical product knowledge, identify upselling opportunities and promote suitable coating solutions.
- Monitor industry trends and market developments to identify opportunities for business growth.
- Maintain accurate records of technical consultations, site visits, product recommendations, and sales-related activities.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, converting technical consultations into sales through effective product recommendations and customer engagement.
- Assist in resolving customer complaints and product performance issues, providing appropriate technical guidance and follow-up.
Requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Building Technology, Mining, Oil & Gas, or any related field of study.
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in technical sales, preferably within the manufacturing, construction, mining, oil and gas, or marine industries.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation methods, coating systems and environmental factors affecting coating performance.
- NACE Level I coating inspection qualification will be an added advantage.
- Ability to combine technical knowledge with commercial awareness to identify customer needs and drive sales.
- Strong business development, negotiation and customer relationship management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
