We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Foreman to lead our Maintenance & Repair (MARC) team.
Job Summary
The General Foreman – Maintenance & Repair (MARC) will be responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy mining equipment and plant machinery. The ideal candidate will lead a team of technicians, ensuring all maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and within budget to minimize operational downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, mechanics, and support staff.
- Maintenance Planning: Plan, schedule, and coordinate preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for heavy mining equipment and MARC facilities.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures to maintain a zero-harm workplace.
- Operational Efficiency: Coordinate with the operations and production teams to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
- Technical Oversight: Diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults and provide technical guidance for repairs.
- Inventory Management: Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables to ensure availability while controlling costs.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate maintenance records, prepare daily progress reports, and report directly to the Maintenance Manager.
- Budget Control: Assist in managing the maintenance budget and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant trade certifications are highly advantageous.
- Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in maintenance and repair within the mining or heavy industrial sector, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of heavy mining equipment (e.g., excavators, dozers, drills, and haul trucks) and maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse technical team.
- Safety Focus: In-depth understanding of mining safety standards and risk assessment.
- Other: Valid driver’s license and excellent communication skills.
