Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems, power distribution, and control systems across the mining operation. This role ensures maximum availability and reliability of critical infrastructure, including winders, pumps, and ventilation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Management: Oversee high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) power distribution networks, substations, and motor control centers.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes (e.g., SANS, IEC, NEC) and Mine Health and Safety Act regulations.
- Maintenance Strategy: Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical equipment.
- Project Management: Manage electrical capital projects from conception to commissioning, including scope definition, budgeting, and contractor management.
- Technical Support: Provide specialized troubleshooting support for complex electrical faults on winders, crushers, and dewatering systems.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate electrical schematics, SLDs (Single Line Diagrams), and equipment registers.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc/BEng).
- Professional registration (Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech Eng) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in heavy industry or mining environments.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, VSDs, and HV switching.
